Get the deal you're looking for

The best way to get the deal you're looking for on your next car purchase is to set the tone for negotiations right up front. The tone you want to set is one where the sales person and the dealer sincerely want to help you on your purchase. How do you create this environment?

Smiling. Yep! That's all it takes.

I was in the retail side of the car business for 17 years and I can promise you that I worked much harder to help someone get the deal they were looking for if I liked them. The customers that came in with attitudes never had a chance. I would of course try to sell them a car but the "help them buy a car" didn't come into the picture.

Also, keeping the negotiations light hearted will keep everyone more relaxed. The more relaxed everyone is the better. Great deals happen when there is little stress involved. You could always stress everyone into giving you that deal you are looking for but it would certainly be no fun for anyone.

My goal always was to make the whole experience work for eveyone. My customers were happy, my salesperson was happy and I was happy. My customers got great deals and we sold another car.

Think back to a time when you purchased a car and had a great experience. 9 times out of 10 you would tell me that you really liked the sales person or sales manager. You would even tell me that I should go see "sales person's name" when I needed another car. Chances are that the sales person actually set the tone first. You felt more comfortable and everything went fine.

As a final note, I had many customers that busted my !*@'s and afterwards apologized for being so tough. My response was always the same. I told them that I didn't mind the !*@ busting since they did it with a smile.
